The Ateneo – La Salle Golf Classic was held last July 31, 2009 at the North and South Courses of the Canlubang Golf and Country Club. This annual event, which is open to all alumni/alumnae and students (who have had at least one term of completed studies) from any Jesuit and La Salle Christian Brothers schools, was first launched in 1984. The Lasallian contingent was made up of 120 golfers compared to Ateneo’s 138. Though somewhat outnumbered, the Lasallian golfers fought gallantly.

Truly, Golf is a sport where success is never a matter of opinion. There are no cases of referees making controversial calls or judges asserting their respective personal biases. Here, the only determinant is the score that each player or team posts. There is no gray area as to who is the clear winner or loser. To win a Golf tournament means to irrefutably be considered as the best for the duration of the competition. It is in such an environment where De La Salle University- Manila has continually proven to be successful.

Three months after their thrilling showdown for the UAAP cage championship, La Salle and Ateneo go at it again, this time, for golf supremacy when the fifth La Salle-Ateneo Match Play is held on December 18-21, 2008 at the Tagaytay Midlands in Tagaytay City.

The Lasallian parbusters have ruled the last three staging of the annual Ryder Cup-style event, including last year’s masterful 24-18 victory, also at Tagaytay Midlands, in a match they dominated from the start behind the hot-starting crew of its youth brigade.

Not unlike the intense rivalry in the recent UAAP basketball finals, Ateneo and La Salle alumni and students alike battled it out in the North and South Courses of the Canlubang Golf and Country Club last November 21 for bragging rights on the fairways. However, unlike the UAAP finals where the Ateneo Blue Eagles swept the La Salle Green Archers, competition last Friday was so tight among the almost 200 participants that it took some time for the results to be announced later that day.

TAGAYTAY CITY, Philippines -- Ateneo de Manila University took the final battle, but a victory in the singles matches could not prevent De La Salle University from winning the war.

The Ateneo Blue Eagles scored a 10.5-7.5 victory over the La Salle Archers in the final-day singles of their Ryder Cup-style match play Friday and all they could do was make the scores closer than they were overnight, 24-18.

HOW one team will surprise the other will be known beginning today when the best shotmakers from Ateneo and La Salle square off at the start of the highly anticipated La Salle-Ateneo Match Play 2007 at Tagaytay Midlands.

THE best shotmakers from De La Salle and Ateneo see action in the much anticipated La Salle-Ateneo Match Play 2007 which starts Wednesday at the Tagaytay Midlands.

“Our friends in the other side are in for a big surprise,” said Ateneo skipper Teboy Javier on the eve of the Ryder Cup-style event, a rivalry so intense that both schools had to tap the best talents in their respective camps to ensure victory.

The epic rivalry between De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University will be elevated to another level as they vie for prestige and golf supremacy in the 2007 La Salle-Ateneo Match Play at the scenic greens of Tagaytay Highlands starting Dec. 19.

The tournament features 18 of the finest golfers from both schools using a Ryder Cup-style format for team and individual match play competition. There will also be six foursome matches and six fourball matches on the first and second days and 18 single matches in the final day on Dec. 21.
